Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative practitioner (clinical psychology or other professional background, eg RCN, BCBA etc) to join the Autism Intensive Service (AIS). AIS provides intensive Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) programmes for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism who are at high risk of hospital/residential admission. This includes a range of intervention models such as ACT, DBT, FAP, narrative and systemic approaches and CBT.

Main duties of the job

The main duties involve multiagency (health, education, social care) working to support a small caseload of families in which young people are presenting with complex and enduring behaviours of distress. The post involves using the PBS framework to assess and manage complex risks with the young people and to deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions that support their wellbeing and Quality of Life (QoL). The post also has the opportunity to provide specialist consultation, training and supervision to the wider system and agencies, including other clinicians, trainees and students.

The post holder will participate fully in the development of the service as a member of the team, including activities such as audit and service evaluation of the service, outcome evaluation and governance. AIS is committed to supporting theoretical learning and developing of therapeutic practice skills, so there are regular opportunities for learning and CPD.

About us

AIS work across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). The service is new to North Somerset, therefore this post will have more of a focus on young people and their families in North Somerset. AIS work across the whole of BNSSG with work organised depending on the needs of young people alongside the skills of staff. AIS work in a blended model between virtual online working and work in the community. Your base will be the area nearest to your home and your travel.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
