A job opportunity has arisen to work within the newly funded Asylum Seeker and Refugee Clinic (ARC). It is a small, but highly specialised service supporting Refugees and Asylum Seekers aged 0-18, including parents and carers. The service covers Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). We are committed to developing a workforce that represents our community, we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and with protective characteristics. It is essential that the post holder has clinical experience in working with this group of CYP and with trauma. Applications from people with lived experience are particularly welcome.This service provides psychological assessment and treatment for Children and Young people who have a presentation of PTSD, the majority of whom are seeking asylum and living with various other complexities e.g. insecure housing, heightened levels of anxiety and isolation. This client group comes from diverse cultural backgrounds. We are passionate that all children, young people, families, carers and their support networks have the support they need to move through the impact that trauma can have on lives and systems.We work in a blended way between the office, the community and online. There are 4 days available in ARC and additional time in Thinking Allowed for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
You will be an integral member of the small ARC, you will work under the supervision of the ARC clinical lead - Anna Kalin. Between you, you will have a team of assistant psychologists, trainees and voluntary staff, as well as support from admin.
You will facilitate groups for children and young people (CYP) as well as groups for the adults who support them. You will also hold a small caseload of CYP, where you will consult to their network, advocate for them and oversee their treatment. For higher need CYP this will be alongside community CAMHS. You will also provide 1-1 therapy for a small number of CYP. You will consult on cases to the wider networks.
The funding for ARC is currently until March 2023, we aim to secure this longer term. The service will focus on measuring the impact it has and this role will be key to this. With the support of the rest of the team you will collect data and prepare reports.
