Job summary

Based at Mason Unit, you will be required to receive members of the public detained on Section 136 or 135 of the Mental Health Act, by the local Constabulary, from the areas of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Your role will be to support these individuals through their assessment process, supporting the nurses in assessing service users physical and mental health needs.

As a band 6 charge nurse in a 24 hour care service, working a shift pattern is mandatory, as is working some weekends and bank holidays. This role also involves managing aggressive/challenging behaviours so candidates must be physically fit to complete our PMVA training that will be provided.

Our team are looking for passionate, highly motivated, experienced registered nurses to work with and lead our team in continuing to develop our service.

The role will involve clinical leadership as well as managing a team of staff. Supporting the Ward Manager with some operational duties and help develop and maintain clinical standards.

We offer in House, Trust and Partnership agency training opportunities and actively encourage staff to develop your skills and knowledge. You will receive regular supervision with your allocated supervisor and the unit provides regular reflective practice and group supervision sessions.

Main duties of the job

The charge nurse would be responsible for supporting the leadership within the unit, focusing on developing staff, quality improvement, learning from incidents and complaints and supporting the multi-disciplinary team in the management of complex cases.

We are looking for candidates who have substantial experience in working as a band 5 staff nurse and working within teams delivering patient centered care, and who are passionate about improving services. We are committed to working in partnership with service users and carers and co-producing service improvement.

To oversee students on the ward, and working with junior members of staff.

To engage with service users using therapeutic nursing skills.
