We are currently working hard to develop and improve our services in Secure and we require outward thinking and innovative approaches from our staff whilst remaining committed to maintaining safety and security.

Wellow ward is an 8 bedded acute ward within Fromeside middle secure unit.

The Wellow ward manager post is a demanding and rewarding post. The ward manager will be pivotal in ensuring standards and performance are maintained at the highest levels. The person we are looking for should be able to demonstrate key leadership skills to empower the nursing team as they strive to achieve standards of care in line with both the Trust and National guidance.

We are looking for someone motivated and interesting in continuing the reducing restrictive practice work this team has achieved.

Main duties of the job

The role will incorporate managing and developing inpatient staff, being involved with clinical complex care reviews and decision making, championing new ideas and facilitating them into practice.

Wellow Ward has a joint care pathway with Severn rehabilitation ward, Wellow and Severn ward managers and teams work closely together and service users regularly move through this pathway. Wellow is part of a national quality improvement programme to reduce restrictive practices. Only 4 wards across the Trust are involved in this national project.

About us

Fromeside is an 81 bedded medium secure unit for people with a mental illness who also have a criminal history, or have risks and behaviours that mean they cannot be treated in mainstream mental health services. Fromeside provides both short term and longer term care and we have an ethos of recovery, and service user and carer involvement. We have a service for women and a range of wards for men, supporting those who are acutely unwell through to those preparing for discharge. People returning to life in the community are supported by our community nurses who work alongside mainstream community mental health services.

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is committed to the fair treatment of all people, regardless of their gender, gender re-assignment, race, colour, ethnicity, ethnic or national origin, citizenship, religion, beliefs, disability, mental health needs, age, domestic circumstances, social class, sexual orientation, ex-offender status, political allegiance or trades union membership. The Trust requires all of its employees to treat all of its stakeholders including colleagues, service users, carers and their visitors with dignity and respect.
