Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist/ Independent Nurse Prescriber to join one of our multi-disciplinary teams, within HMP Erlestoke.

HMP Erlestoke is a Category C male prison supporting men to reduce their reoffending and reintegrating back in to the community through release planning. There is a mixed population of men including violent offenders, IPP and life sentenced prisoners, individuals with learning difficulties, young offenders and those in drug recovery. This creates a demanding and exciting work environment where effective team work, multi-agency working and patient focused care are critical to the role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working within primary and secondary Mental Health care as part of an integrated mental health and substance misuse services in a wider integrated Healthcare team. They will provide the assessment and planning function for mental health referrals to the service and, working with the support of Consultant Psychiatrist, management, mental health practitioner, wellbeing support workers and peer supporters. They will work to and continue to develop the care model, provide all prescribing, de-prescribing and medicines reconciliation for the mental health services, and form an integral part of the care program approach.

The post holder will also support other registered and unregistered staff with tasks to ensure the smooth running of the care that we provide.

The role will involve collaborative work with all disciplines within the prison including offender management (probation), psychology, programs and prison officers.

There is an excellent multidisciplinary approach towards patient care and an exciting opportunity to work closely with different professions.

HMP Erlestoke is based in a beautiful rural setting in Wiltshire and is a short journey from the surrounding towns including Devizes, Frome, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Chippenham. There is free parking on site, a staff canteen, farm shop and access to a gym.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain prison security clearance in addition to DBS and reference checks.

This post will also be well supported by a prison nurse prescribers forum and, within AWP, the nurse prescribers forum. We actively encourage CPD and the post holders will be supported to keep up to date and further develop their skills and areas of expertise.
