Job summary
THIS POST IS AVAILABLE TO ALL APPLICANTS WHO CAN DEMONSTRATE RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION, EDUCATION TO DEGREE LEVEL OR ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE EQUIVALENT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE
The established mental health liaison team at Salisbury Hospital is made up of a team manager, senior practitioner, band 6 nurses, and our consultant psychiatrist.
What makes mental health liaison an exciting practice area is the unique interplay between physical and mental health which is rarely seen in other settings.
In Salisbury Hospital, the regional specialties include plastics and burns and the supra-regional specialty of spinal. This gives unique insight into patients who can attend from other counties with significant self-harm or mental health issues arising from life changing conditions.
As an ageless mental health liaison team (18+), we support the hospital and their patients across the lifespan giving practitioners the chance to broaden their knowledge in all areas of mental health including acute, later life and organic and specialised pathways such as perinatal, eating disorder, and somatoform and medically unexplained symptoms. We see patients at all points of their journey- first point of contact needing primary care input to the most complex and challenging presentations.
Main duties of the job
You will be participating in the provision of a responsive, needs-led mental health assessment and short-term intervention service to adults presenting to the SDH, with a range of mental health problems, with focus on self-harm assessment. There are exciting teaching & educational opportunities to provide training for the acute hospital to ensure a safe & responsive service for the SDH
The successful candidate would be a dynamic and pro-active practitioner who would be able to thrive working in the fast paced and unpredictable general hospital environment.Preferably it would desirable if the successful candidate has an understanding of working alongside the acute general hospital, and the challenges this brings.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with excellent frontline assessment skills, who either holds a professional registration. It is important that you are comfortable with undertaking complex risk assessments and are able to make evidence based clinical decisions under pressure. There would be an expectation for you to support & develop the practitioners in the team, to promote autonomous & safe practice to the highest standard, whilst also supporting the team manager.
You should able to provide evidence of continued professional development. You will be a team player and someone who is able to show sensitivity and tact as an essential requirement, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
