Hours: 37.5 hrs. per week
Salary: Band 6 Afc £33706-£40588 + unsocial hours
Location: Trust wide: Newcastle-Newburn, South Tyneside-Hebburn and Teesside-Wynyard

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) have exciting opportunities for a Registered Clinician or AHP with an extensive background in supporting Mental Health, to join our multi-disciplinary Clinical Assessment Team, delivering quality care to our patients, and provide advice to the wider NEAS team.
As a highly proficient mental health practitioner you will provide mental state and risk assessment of callers and be expected to practice within a positive risk-taking framework.
This will be a demanding role and mental health practitioners will be expected to appropriately manage their workload. As a mental health clinical advisor, you will work across 111 and 999 services, providing assessment and clinical advice to patients and operational staff, signposting them to services and places where alternative, more appropriate care can be provided.

Main duties of the job
IUC/NHS 111 mental health practitioners are required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the service provided by providing high-quality, evidence-based healthcare to the immediate needs of the patient. You will demonstrate a commitment to a high-quality service, excellence in clinical practice and continuous professional development, which are all integral to the role and the development of the service.
Mental health practitioners require a critical understanding of detailed theoretical and practical knowledge and have specialist knowledge and experience, have some responsibility for team performance and service development and they consistently undertake self-development. You will be responsible for the telephone assessment of health and clinical needs, utilising professional clinical judgement, supported by NHS Pathways and other suitable clinical decision support systems across both 111 and 999.
The role requires specialist skills to assess and deliver care to patients across all age-groups. You will provide assessment, medication advice and health information supporting individuals to access the appropriate level of care including advice to manage their symptoms at home. You will be responsible for the supervision, teaching, preceptorship, coaching and mentoring of staff.
You will be expected to support delivery of the national healthcare agenda and represent the organisation in a timely and professional manner as and when required.
