Job summary

We're delighted to be able to recruit into this new post as Director of Paramedicine/Allied Health Professionals. We want to strengthen our team of clinical leaders, working with the Board of Directors to rebuild, reshape and move forward our ambitions as a Trust. It's an important appointment to visibly lead and inspire our teams as we look to how we transform services to meet demands, and ensure patients receive high quality and safe care.

It's a great opportunity to join an Exec Team which is emerging and re-forming. We're at a crucial time where the landscape is open to innovation and improvement as we work with our partners tackling priorities around funding, workforce, estate and patient pathways. We're committed to working with Care Quality Commission on their findings as well as securing significant investment in 22/23. This allows us to recruit, develop and retain the best people in our workforce as well as working to become more efficient and productive.

To do this, we're looking for someone to join us who has the same vision and share commitment to living our values. You'll be working as part of a supportive team and be able to take advantage of a great work-life balance and agile ways of working.

We welcome applications from candidates with protected characteristics as it is important as an organisation that we reflect the people we serve.

Note this role is subject to a Fit and Proper persons test.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Paramedicine will be a visible, vibrant, and inspiring leader with a clear and compelling vision to develop the Trusts future clinical strategy. Working closely with the Executive Medical Director and Executive Director of Quality & Safety as part of a clinical triumvirate, you will be a core member of the clinical leadership team responsible for influencing, shaping and leading strategy, policy and clinical transformation both within North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and as part of the wider regional and national health and social care systems.

You will play a pivotal role in the organisations leadership as part of the Executive Management Team and in attendance at Trust Board, working across the Trust and wider Integrated Health System (ICS). You will ensure appropriate strategies and plans to deliver are aligned to the Trusts longer term goals and you lead our teams on that journey.

As a senior Allied Health Professional/Paramedic for the Trust you will effectively engage external partners and stakeholders in the long-term and mutual benefits of NEAS clinical transformation and strengthen our place within the wider system. The post holder will ensure, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, continued, improved clinical performance across all service areas of the Trust. Delivery of this will be via robust integrated strategic plans implemented by a network of clinical leaders, thereby offering organisational assurance to stakeholders.

About us

We employ 3,500 staff in 63 locations and serve a population of 2,600,000 in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, and Tees over 3230 square miles.

Many people think the job of the ambulance service is to collect patients and take them to hospital, but we do much more!

Paramedic skills have developed hugely in recent years, meaning we carry out more treatment at the scene and en-route to hospital.

We have a dedicated clinical assessment service that allows us to provide patients with the most appropriate care from the beginning of the patient journey.

We have a specialised branch of the Trust called HART which deal with explosions or terrorist attacks.

Ultimately patients are the heart of everything that we do to support our mission of "safe, effective and responsive care for all".

We value and respect the diversity employees bring to our workplace. We recruit a workforce that reflects the community we serve, and welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. To ensure we deliver on our aims in relation to diversity and inclusion we assess ourselves against a range of frameworks. We are ENEI Gold employer, Disability Confident Leader, Dyslexia Smart Award employer, Dementia Friendly, and part of Mind Blue Light programme and the Race at Work Charter from the Princes Responsible Business Network and are achieving across all objectives in NHS Equality Delivery System.
