Job summary
We are recruiting for Apprentice Ambulance Support Practitioners; this role is a key part of our Emergency Clinical Care Team.

The training course is a 13-month program, a level 3 apprenticeship-Diploma in Ambulance Emergency & Urgent Care Support & Emergency Response Ambulance Driving. Continued progression within NEAS is subject to you obtaining these level 3 qualifications.
You must hold a level 1 qualification or above in Maths and English or be able to demonstrate a working application of Level 1 or above. You will be asked to provide your certificate as evidence of this if you are invited to interview.
If you do not provide this at interview we will ask you to complete a BKSB (Basic & Key Skills Builder Test) to confirm your functional skills on the day.
As part of this you will also be supported to obtain literacy & numeracy level 2 if you do not already have them or the equivalent within 12 months of starting in post. You will also be required to sign a learner agreement for this level of commitment
You MUST have a UK (Manual) driving licence with either full C1 entitlement or a Provisional C1 Licence & proof of passed Theory section of the Test at the time of applying.
Please also note that you will be required to have the full C1 entitlement on your driving licence on day one of starting with NEAS.
Main duties of the job
The post requires competence in the safe moving of patients therefore safe moving and handling techniques must be deployed including the use of all relevant mechanical equipment, handling device and restraint/clamping systems including baby/child seats and wheelchairs, chairs and stretchers. All Infection Prevention and Control policies must be abided by to reduce the likelihood of a health care associated infection The post will also require an element of patient observation, recording of vital signs and providing hands on support in CPR and resuscitation. To use advanced driving skills including blue light and normal traffic conditions to respond to Emergency, urgent and routine calls as required. To undertake daily vehicle inspections, restock hard and soft items according to the vehicle inventory.
Initial Training consists of 7 weeks clinical & 3 week driving on entry to the role & is pass or fail
Ability to attend emergency care and blue light driver training for the position.
Full UK/EU driving licence together with holding either full C1 entitlement or alternatively a Provisional C1 Licence and proof of successfully passed Theory section of the Test at time of application.
