Job summary
The Department of Neuropsychology at Southmead Hospital is seeking a dynamic psychology graduate to join our clinical team as an Assistant Psychologist. Our department provides services within inpatient and outpatient settings, including specialist teams in Neurosurgery and Cognitive Neurology. We collaborate with other disciplines in the Clinical Neurosciences, and we are affiliated with the University of Bristol delivering post-graduate programmes in Clinical Neuropsychology.
We are looking for someone with an interest in neuropsychological disorders and psychometrics. Training will be provided for the post-holder to develop the knowledge and skills required to develop rapport, administer standardised tests and make observations.The post-holder will collate test results, therefore, an interest in accuracy and attention to detail is required.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support Clinical Neuropsychologists / Psychologists in their clinical services. The main duties include administering and scoring neuropsychological tests, and providing behavioural observations, under supervision with a Clinical Neuropsychologist / Psychologist.

The Assistant Psychologist will join a large team of 5 Assistant Psychologists in Southmead Hospital services, with 4 further Assistant Psychologist in the wider Neuropsychology department. They will be working with 7 Clinical Neuropsychologists / Psychologists at Southmead Hospital, with 7 further Clinical Neuropsychologists / Psychologist in the wider Neuropsychology department. The post holder will provide technical and clinical support for the Clinical Neuropsychologists / Psychologists as follows:
- The post holder will administer neuropsychological tests with patients, as directed by the Southmead hospital team lead.
- The post holder will score psychometric tools, collate and summarise the data onto specified data sheets and data bases and present these along with an observational record of the assessment session.
- The post holder will maintain records in accordance with NBT, departmental, and professional standards and practices.
- The post holder will perform administrative tasks as required, under the direction of the Southmead hospital team lead.
- The post holder will work within the schedules imposed by the Southmead team lead and/or their supervisor.
- The post holder will comment as relevant on matters related to service delivery within their range of duties, raising issues requiring attention to their supervisor and /or the Southmead team lead.
- The post holder will undertake an agreed professional development plan to advance competencies and knowledge in the clinical work and professional expertise. This is established and monitored through programme of performance review.
- The post holder will undertake regular supervision with a Clinical Neuropsychologist / Psychologist in line with explicit supervision arrangements.
- The post holder will at all times observe the service, professional, and ethical guidelines, and stated good practise guidelines for psychologists, as set out by the BPS.
