Job summary

We are recruiting ISW's (Imaging Support Workers)

This is a great opportunity as you will join us as a band 2 with the opportunity to progress to a band 3 when you achieve the relevant competencies

You will be required to work in the Imaging department and will have the opportunity to work in various modalities including, MRI, CT, Plain Film, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Reception based at the Southmead site. We also provide various services at Yate, Cossham and Clevedon and require ISWs to provide support for these locations.

You will promote a friendly and welcoming environment greeting patients into the department and work alongside other Imaging staff.

You will assist patients prior, during and post procedure ensuring their privacy and dignity is maintained.

You will act a chaperone, reassure patients, keep the rooms tidy and fully stocked, cover reception and escort and transport patients as and when required using wheelchair, beds trollies etc.

Hours of work:

Various shift patterns:

Saturday & Sunday 8.30am - 1.30pm

Saturday 2.00pm - 10.00pm

There are a variety of shifts working between 8.00am - 8.00pm both full time and part time (Monday - Friday) hours to be agreed at interview.

Flexibility is important, there may be an opportunity to work additional hours to ensure we have adequate staffing levels.

Main duties of the job

An Imaging Support Worker is a member of the Team appointed to receive patients into the department and support other Imaging Department staff to assist patients to meet their needs when visiting the Radiology Department

The post holder will be expected to undertake a broad range of activities under the direction of registered Imaging department staff

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

Support registered radiology/nursing staff in the provision of essential care to

patients by assisting patients whilst in the radiology department according to trust policy and procedures with:

Acting as a chaperone whilst undergoing examinations

To assist in the Imaging rooms, giving explanations and reassurance

Aiding dressing and undressing

To be able to undertake reception duties when required

Help to promote and maintain a clean, comfortable and tidy environment in the

department, which meets the needs of patients, their relatives/carers and friends

Contribute to accurate written and computerised documentation relevant to patient care ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergo treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times

Chaperone patients during intimate procedures as required.

Escort and transport non-acute patients with no treatment in progress and/or their relatives/carers to other wards and departments within the Trust , via wheelchair, beds and trolleys

Be aware of the importance of good health and the health education needs of patients as identified within individual care plans.

After completion of the appropriate training

Prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities (These will vary between wards and

departments) such as:

a) Receive and store medication and products

b) Use of mechanical aids to assist movement and handling of patients

c) Assist with the preparation of trolleys for use in clinical areas

Reception:

Promote a friendly and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors in order to inspire confidence in the department and Trust.

Receive and assist patients and all visitors attending the department in a courteous and professional manner.

Ensure request forms and other documentation is correctly completed in line with departmental procedures.

Maintain and update accurate attendance, personal and appointment details on the Computerised Radiology Information Systems (CRIS)

Update the electronic hospital system to ensure the correct patient details are available on the CRIS.

Confidently deal with queries coming through the department via telephone and face to face.

Receive and accurately pass on information to relevant personnel.

Deal with incoming post and distribute throughout their area and where necessary re-direct to the correct area.

Perform general clerical duties and work within clerical teams under the office supervisor.

Maintain personal standards of hygiene and promote universal precautions to limit

cross infection

To wear uniform as agreed by North Bristol Trust

Participate in training and development programmes as identified by the department

Manager and contribute to the development of others
