About us

Orthopaedic services including elective procedures are provided at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) at Southmead Hospital. The AOC provides the main elective orthopaedic service for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and also hosts inpatient surgery for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Healthcare Trust. Five theatres run all day six days a week with 28 consultants operating here. The local catchment population is approximately 500,000 but specialist services are also offered more widely across the region. The upper limb service covers all aspects of upper limb care and accepts tertiary referrals from a wide region. The AOC is a high volume arthroplasty centre undertaking primary and complex revision work. North Bristol Trust is the regional Major Trauma Centre and the fellowship allows exposure to complex acute upper limb trauma as well as late reconstruction for trauma.

Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. If in a training post this post is recognised for off programme training. Successful candidates will undergo training appraisal and assessment.
