Job summary

The post holder will act as a senior healthcare professional within the Lung Cancer Team and provide support to the workforce in Respiratory Medicine and be identifiable, highly visible, and accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support.

The enhanced level is differentiated from other levels by one's expertise in applying specific knowledge and skills to a designated area. This role will manage caseloads of patients, providing intervention as part of a designated pathway.

1. This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice, as well as leadership of other practitioners working in the department.

They will work in conjunction with the MDT to clearly define values, direction and policies impacting upon care.

Band 6 Post for development will be considered for this role.

Main duties of the job

  1. Assess, differentially diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment interventions within a set field of practice for patients by virtue of enhanced clinical judgement and close liaison with members of the MDT
  2. Develop specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience of the care and management of patients with lung cancer, including acute presentation of malignancy, complications of the disease process, and patient pathways.
  3. Demonstrate compassionate leadership in daily working, supporting other Practitioners in your areas of work, holding line management responsibility for the team.
  4. Utilise advanced clinical skills within an interdepartmental and / or multidisciplinary team to ensure that patients with Lung Cancer receive holistic, timely and high-quality clinical care.
  5. Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses.
  6. Demonstrate effective communication skills, supporting people in making decisions, planning care, or seeking to make positive changes, using Health Education England's framework to promote person-centred approaches in health and care.
  7. Work in partnership with individuals, families, and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate.
