Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic specialist grade doctor to join our Regional Tertiary Neonatal Unit. You will be joining a team of 11 consultants providing clinically excellent care to all babies across the South Western Operational Delivery Network. We are looking for an individual who would be able to take up this post from Winter 2024.

The Regional Neonatal Unit at Southmead is a Tertiary centre with excellent clinical outcomes. We work closely with our neighbouring unit at St. Michael's Hospital as joint lead centre for the northern half of the South West Neonatal Network. We have 34 neonatal cots of which 16 are designated intensive/high dependency.

The post will attract 10 PAs and will work a shift system during on call hours.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold a track record of experience within tertiary neonatal services. A period of time acting into a consultant role would be an advantage. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to complement the needs of the department.

Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidates will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for specialist grade (England) 2021: SAS Contract 2021

Essential

  • MRCP/MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MSc)

Training and Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades.
