Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join Cancer Services to drive improvements in patient experience across the organisation and beyond. A new survey, based on areas for improvement identified in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, is due to go out to every patient diagnosed with cancer at NBT in the next few weeks. NBT diagnose approximately 7,500 cases per year, across 12 tumour specialities. Behind each and every one of these is a person navigating complex pathways and with an experience that we want to learn from. With many cancer pathways being shared with UHBW, system working will be key. There will be opportunity to work across the BNSSG healthcare system and also the chance to share learning to support organisations across the SWAG (Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire) Cancer Alliance. This work has been funded by the SWAG Cancer Alliance until April 2026, and we need a clinical leader to join us to ensure that patient experience is at the heart of cancer transformation at NBT and beyond.

***Proposed Interview Date 12th September 2024

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Cancer Services at NBT, the successful candidate will support each of our 12 speciality teams to respond effectively and sustainably to their patient experience data. We have never had a systematic way to harness as much live patient experience data directly related to all cancer pathways, and this will be a big change for cancer specialities. We need someone with expert coaching and motivational skills to support them through this change, creating opportunities to share learning across specialities, as well as further afield locally and regionally. This project will create ample opportunity for cancer services to put patient experience at the heart of the work they are already doing to transform and improve services. The successful candidate will support them do this in a way that is easy, inspiring and ultimately sustainable.

About us

Tackling health inequalities is a big focus at NBT. The successful candidate will consider health inequalities in all aspects of their work, working with the Assistant Chief Nursing Offer for Cancer Services and various others working in this space to seek opportunities to listen and respond to under-served members of our local population. There will be opportunity to gain oversight of all work already occurring in this space in relation to cancer, which will both help inform the work you do and also give oversight and opportunity for learning to the NBT Cancer Board.

We are also committed to sharing learning beyond the organisation, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build relationships across the BNSSG ICS and SWAG Cancer Alliance region to enable patients and colleagues from further afield to benefit from your work.
