Job summary

Research Administrator - Band 3

Are you an enthusiastic, organised administrator with a desire to contribute to improving patient care?

We are seeking an experienced administrator with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail to work within our orthopaedic research team. This is an opportunity to work as part of a well established team which offers a friendly and supportive work environment. We are a growing and dynamic multidisciplinary team conducting studies across both trauma and elective orthopaedics.

As part of this friendly team you will help us to deliver our portfolio of research studies and contribute to improving the care for this group of patients.

The post is offered in the first instance at 15 hours a week on a 1-year fixed term basis.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide administrative support for the research team. The role will include:

  • Organisation of study documents and files
  • Entering data onto a range of study databases
  • Booking and managing patient appointments
  • Communication with staff and patients
  • Organisation and recording of meetings

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have;

  • A good working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous administrative experience including dealing members of the public, prioritising and organising work, including filing

They must be able to communicate effectively with all groups of staff and patients via telephone, email and face-to-face.

The main duties of the post will involve:

  • Providing administrative support to the research teams as appropriate:
    • Arranging meetings & appointments
    • Recording, typing and circulation of minutes
    • Support in preparation/printing of agendas/papers
    • Responding to enquiries from external research staff and Principal Investigators
    • Recording, reporting and monitoring of research issues
  • Administration of research study documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate study records on individual study databases and the Trust R&D database.
  • Providing support to the research team by:
    • Typing and amending documents
    • Photocopying, printing, sending emails as and when required
    • Sort, distribute and prioritise incoming queries, using judgement and experience to decide which documents are to be passed to the infrastructure team and which may be dealt with directly,
  • Using initiative to manage own workload independently, referring to Line Manager when difficulties are encountered
  • Promoting systems and excellent communication between research infrastructure team and external parties and ensure this is maintained by:
    • Attending team meetings to provide/receive feedback
    • Ensuring there is an effective system in place for passing on messages
  • Maintaining a safe and secure working environment for self, internal and external visitors

Handling personal, sensitive (commercially and otherwise), confidential information.
