Job summary

The post will commence from August 2024. The successful applicant will join a team of dermatologists who work closely with the plastic surgery department to provide a skin cancer service at NBT. We also provide a general dermatology service and have close links with the dermatology department at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). The dermatology service is a local and regional service primarily covering Bristol and South Gloucestershire populations, but we also provide an SSMDT and accept tertiary referrals for patients with complex skin cancer in the South-West. We also deliver specialist services such as Mohs' micrographic surgery, Laser, Vulval dermatology, and complex eczema.

The post-holder will join a team of 5 Consultant Dermatologists, 1 associate specialist, 2 specialist nurses and 4 doctors in training employed at the trust.

Main duties of the job

Assessment and management of general dermatology and skin cancer patients in an outpatient setting under supervision of the senior team

Assessment and management of inpatients participating in an 'on-call rota' in office hours (shared with the junior doctors in the dermatology team)

Opportunity to carry out minor skin procedures (skin biopsies, excision and direct closure)

Participation in departmental audit and research

Supporting Clinical Meetings including: Weekly SSMDT for skin cancer; Complex cases (Combined clinic) meetings

You will develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Trust and be expected to integrate into the existing team to provide dermatology services for the local community, which requires working with the consultants and other specialist registrar colleagues.

There will be the opportunity to develop skills in general dermatology and dermatological surgery. The post will be based at Southmead Hospital although the post holder may be required to undertake clinical sessions at other NBT hospitals or sites where we support other clinical providers.

The main responsibility is to provide clinical advice and treatment within the specialty, under the leadership of senior colleagues and at times may require the post holder to collaborate with colleagues from other specialties within the Division and wider Trust.
