Job summary

Southmead Hospital Charity is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Marketing and Communications Lead to increase the visibility of our charity, expand our audiences and strengthen engagement across our digital platforms.

Main duties of the job

In this varied and busy position, you will play a key role in helping to develop and implement a communications and engagement strategy for Southmead Hospital Charity, overseeing and managing supporter communications, making our key messages compelling and our content engaging.

Reporting to the Charity's Head of Fundraising and Communications, you will support the Fundraising team to deliver outstanding print and digital donor communication to maximise fundraising income, leading marketing campaigns planning for key areas of work including legacies and appeals.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of communications using the existing channels and develop new and innovative ways of engaging and communicating with Charity supporters, both digitally and in print. You will have an in-depth knowledge on how to plan, build, deliver and measure digital communications activity (internal and external) with a creative flair that brings content to life.

An excellent team player with a flexible approach, you'll need to work seamlessly with colleagues in NBT's Central Communications team to oversee the provision of accurate and relevant information about the Charity to supporters, ensuring the Charity's messaging complements and enhances that of the Trust.

Ideally you will have experience of working in fundraising communications, preferably with knowledge of internal communications or have a thorough understanding of employee engagement.

General

  • Support and assist the Director and Head of Fundraising and Communications with the development of a complex communications and engagement strategy and subsequent action plan.
  • Support and assist with the development of complex systems, policies and procedures to monitor, edit and improve donor communications channels and services including content, structure and two-way information flows.
  • Commission, write and develop communications in different media forms and for different audiences.
  • Ensure that all donor communications channels and services are consistent with appropriate accessibility standards and are written in highly engaging styles this will involve strong communication skills with sensitive information and co-operation skills.
  • Support the development of complex evaluation criteria (KPIS) and tools and the production of electronic evaluation reports using appropriate information systems.
  • Ensure all communications support the Charitys culture, mission, vision and values and priorities and objectives where barriers exist and resistance to change.
  • Work with the Fundraising team to develop and manage the communications plan for the Charity, this will involve planning complex activities, ensuring that key campaigns and events are captured.
  • Ensure that the communications channels plan is regularly updated and integrated with NBT Central Communications plans.
  • Take direction from the Director and Head of Fundraising and Communications on the management of the communication channels and be responsible for creating content and editing materials for existing Charity and NBT channels.

Print and Direct Mail

  • Lead the production of the supporter magazine and impact report and research and produce engaging content; this will involve planning, analysis and comparison of a range of options.
  • With the Data Insight Officer, be responsible for donor electronic circulation lists and ensure the distribution of targeted donor communications (email and print).
  • Support bespoke projects which require communications support (e.g. banner stands, marketing leaflets) which will involve analytical skills and planning.
  • Support the delivery of donor engagement events with provision of materials and supporting the programme development.
  • Support a variety of fundraising work streams such as community, events, legacy, major donor, regular and individual giving, engaging with the relevant work stream leads ensuring that their work is regularly communicated.
  • Support the Head of Fundraising and Communications with the delivery of the annual impact report by booking design and print support, drafting content and liaising with Finance to confirm financial figures which is complex.
  • Help to maintain the Charitys brand identity through use of the brand guidelines and ensure that these are correctly deployed through all communications.

Digital

  • With the Head of Fundraising and Communications, devise a digital marketing strategy that aligns with the Charitys wider objectives and priorities - helping to bring new and innovative ways of communicating with internal and external audiences.
  • Develop a social media plan to communicate and engage with key and new audiences.
  • Write engaging content for social media and website.
  • Manage the Charitys social media channels Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin etc.
  • Manage the Charitys website including content management and continual editing to ensure the Charity has a fresh and current donor centric website.

Media relations

  • With the Director and NBT Central Communications team, deliver the Charitys media relations service ensuring a responsive service to all enquiries.
  • Strengthen and grow relationships with local, national and trade media.
  • Organise and manage media briefings, press conferences and facilitate visits and events.
  • Produce written materials such as statements and features to support the work of the Charity.

Other

  • Support NBT Central Communications team to update Charity references on Trust intranet.
  • Review emerging /new donor communications tools, techniques and development to ensure the Charity is in line with best practice/policy.
  • Undertake continuing personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the post.
  • Adhere at all times to the Trust and Charitys policies and procedures.
  • Propose changes to policies/services within own area i.e. charity comms
  • Implement policy changes when directed to do so by line manager.
  • Ensure that all data is handled confidentially and is compliant with the Data Protection Act, especially with regard to records of donors and volunteers.
