Job summary

Applications are invited for a full time (8 PA) Consultant to join our senior Rheumatology team. Part-time applicants are welcome.

Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register and/or have a CCT in Rheumatology or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full current professional registration with the GMC is essential. Experiences and familiarity within UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is based within the Rheumatology Service at North Bristol NHS Trust. We provide a patient-centred multidisciplinary service. Our rheumatology department is diverse and ambitious with a shared vision to strive for excellence. We treat patients with all aspects of rheumatology and provide comprehensive services for inflammatory arthritis, ultrasound, transition care, metabolic bone disease | osteoporosis, GCA and CTD vasculitis. In addition, we have a successful and highly productive academic rheumatology team linked with the University of Bristol.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
  • Must have CCT in Rheumatology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment.
  • Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.

Desirable

  • Higher qualification e.g. Masters, MD, PhD
  • Rheumatology publications.
  • Evidence of additional relevant training e.g. management and leadership.

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of seven years postgraduate experience including higher surgical/medical training, three years as a Specialist Registrar in an approved training post, or equivalent. Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential. Broad and full training in diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic conditions.
  • Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
  • Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
  • Clinical Governance principles.

Desirable

  • Experience in involvement in service redesign.
  • Evidence of leadership development programme committed to quality improvement during training

Further Training, Management and Audit

Essential

  • Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
  • Experience in audit | projects and written up

Desirable

  • Completion of a general management course or programme.

Research, Teaching and Publications

Essential

  • Proven teaching ability.
  • Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.

Desirable

  • Rheumatology publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at regional | national meetings
  • Record in research.
  • Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.

Communication and Leadership Skills

  • Good written communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
  • Ability to help manage a team and form effective working relationships within a team.
