Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Inpatient Stroke Team, following promotion of the current post holder. The team is part of the wider Occupational Therapy Service and benefits from close multi-disciplinary team working and links with community partners.

This Band 5 post is not rotational and permits the post holder time to develop in-depth clinical skills in this specialty, plus experience beneficial for transition to Band 6 roles, e.g. involvement in service development work and assisting with supervision of support staff and students.

The post is based on the hyper acute and acute stroke unit at Southmead Hospital [HASU/ASU]. Under the recent stroke pathway changes in BNSSG, Southmead now serves as the sole HASU/ASU for the area. There are close working relationships with other elements of the stroke pathway - the subacute rehabilitation units and the community stroke service.

We run a preceptorship programme for new graduates and offer other development opportunities to facilitate your CPD.

Main duties of the job

The caseload is challenging and rewarding requiring application of a wide range of therapeutic skills to encompass functional and cognitive assessments, early interventions, social and environmental needs for discharge planning and onward referrals.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual, with an interest in stroke, who is keen to keen to develop their skills within this speciality. There are both internal and external CPD opportunities available with quality improvement projects encouraged. Senior support is always on hand and regular supervision is provided.

Close multi-disciplinary working and links with community partners in the wider health and care system exist to address needs at all stages of the clinical pathways, with occupational therapy playing a crucial role.

About us

North Bristol NHS Trustis a specialist centre for acute stroke where thrombolysis, thrombectomy and other emergency care is provided to patients from across the region.The service has strong links to other specialties within neurosciences.

The services are based within the award winning Brunel building at Southmead Hospital which has excellent facilities including therapy rooms, a large ADL kitchen and purpose designed splint room. The wards have 75% single rooms, which are equipped with overhead tracking hoists, ensuite toilets and level access showers. Staff are also well catered for with benefits including a staff restaurant with roof terrace, cycle centre and wellbeing support.

There is plenty of peer and senior support in the team, and various professional development opportunities and training courses are available. Quality improvement projects and service development ideas are actively encouraged.
