Job summary
We are recruiting for a Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide a consistently outstanding and exemplary service to our patients. The successful candidate will be key in providing technical, scientific and managerial support for the department.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with previous experience in a senior BMS role. The appointee will have excellent communication and personnel skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team, as well having extensive Cellular Pathology experience.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job are
- To provide an efficient, expert and cost effective Cellular Pathology (Histopathology, diagnostic Cytopathology and Cervical Screening) service for North Bristol NHS Trust. Scope of role to include services provided in the central services laboratory, the essential services laboratory (UHBW) and in any other locations.
- To Plan and implement strategic developments in Cellular Pathology. Key duties will be required in the fields of scientific development, training, health and safety and control of expenditure.
- To provide overall management and organisation oversight and responsibility within the Department
- To function as Cellular Pathology lead for Clinical Governance, Risk and Training

- Postgraduate level qualification equivalent to MSc in Cell Path
- Current HCPC registration
Work Experience
Essential
- Current experience in a diagnostic Cell Path laboratory
- Minimum of 6 years post graduate experience
- Minimum of 2 years management experience
Knowledge/Skills

- Expert knowledge of Cellular Pathology, including theoretical and practical knowledge of relevant techniques and their clinical applications
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Ability to provide professional leadership
