This is a full-time consultant neurologist post with a specialist interest in Movement Disorders Neurology to join an established, highly committed, multi-disciplinary movement disorders team.
Job Plan: Proposed Job Plan is attached although the individual will be expected to work flexibly to fulfil high professional standards and contribute to Departmental duties.
Main duties of the job
(i)Clinical Duties
The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the postholder is absent.
(ii)Teaching and Supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students
The postholder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including a dedicated movement disorders clinical fellow. Where appropriate, the postholder will be named in the educational contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.
In liaison with the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education the postholder may be required to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education.
(iii)Audit
The postholder will encouraged to take part in a Clinical Audit Programme. The Trust has an audit department which supports and monitors such activity. There is an active Trust Clinical Audit Committee.

We actively work with Parkinson's UK and Cure Parkinson's and have our own movement disorders Patient Public Involvement Group. Applicants will be expected to participate in support all the above.

The post is basedentirely at North Bristol Trust on the Southmead Hospital site.
The post will include 2 specialist movement disorder clinics per week, day-case movement disorder reviews, movement disorder ward consultations and supporting the movement disorders MDT and broader activities.
The post also includes 1.5 general neurology clinics per week. Once a month a general neurology clinic will be replaced by a neurology hot-clinic. For between 2-4 weeks per year all activity will be replaced with being the neurology consultant providing cover to the general neurology ward
The post-holder will join 25 consultant neurologists who collectively provide general neurology and broad a range of sub-specialist interests within the Department of Neurology at North Bristol Trust (NBT).
The post includes a one in fourteen on-call in stroke neurology including thrombectomy and thrombolysis and a day per month in acute stroke care. If not experienced in stroke neurology the appointed person will be trained and supervised in this until able to perform an independent on-call. There is additional SPA time provided to maintain CPD in stroke. **NB this is subject to change due to Acute Stroke Reconfiguration**
