Job summary

We are looking for a Locum Obstetric Consultant to join our team of Consultants in Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol. Due to recent funding we have created a need for a locum for our core business.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register and have CCT in Obstetrics or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from base hospital, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidates will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The women and children's services are delivered on the same site in a closely adjacent building.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will hold CCT in Obstetrics or be within 6 months of this. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department.

The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent.

We are looking for a vibrant keen obstetrician to join a great team of Obstetricians at NBT. The ability to be able to perform growth scans is a desirable, but not essential criteria. We are a busy, dynamic department and are the regional hosts for the South West Placenta Accreta Service, Maternal Medicine and extreme prematurity and as such we manage a complex caseload. We have full time Consultant and Registrar Obstetric Physicians would work alongside the Obstetricians.

The postholder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

The postholder will be required to take part in quality improvement projects.

There is a strong research element in our department. The option to develop research to complement our departmental research plans and could be negotiated in job planning if or when appropriate
