Job summary

Are you interested in helping patients meet their nutritional needs? If yes, we have an interesting and varied job opportunity as a Nutrition Assistant, working with our staff across two acute medical wards.

This post will involve communicating about nutrition with patients and ward staff. This is a newly developed role. We want to trial this for 12 months and the postholder will be expected to monitor the benefits to the patients, carers and ward staff.

The role will include supporting patient mealtimes, monitoring nutritional care plans, supporting nutritional screening of patients, educating patients, families, ward staff and updating patient records.

The successful candidate will work with the wards teams and have strong links with the Dietitian, catering staff and Speech and Language Therapist. Your training needs will be supported and there will be regular input from the team to monitor output and assess the role.

We're looking for someone who is well organised, works well in a team and has good communication skills. A background in nutrition is not essential but an enthusiasm to learn about the subject and some experience in healthcare is helpful.

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting patients at meal times.
  • Supporting patients with snacks.
  • Supporting the ward team with nutritional assessment and review.
  • Collecting data.
  • Supporting and educating patients and families around nutrition.
