Job summary

The role of the Patient Communications & Engagement Assistant is to work with the Patient Communications & Engagement Lead to ensure NBT meets the national NHS Accessible Information Standard in identifying, recording, flagging, sharing and meeting the information and communication support needs of patients, service users, carers and parents, where those needs relate to a disability, impairment or sensory loss.
They will be managed by the Patient Communications & Engagement Lead and oversee the production of patient information, in printed formats and online.
They will support a patient working group, and staff working group to ensure all accessibility needs are met across all our communications channels, including out Electronic Patient Records system.
The postholder will need to be highly credible and confident and be able to work with a wide range of colleagues.
Main duties of the job
- Support the development and delivery a five-year accessibility strategy for the Trust.
- Support staff training of new AIS Policy.
- Support the administration of a patient and a staff working group.
- Oversee the production of all patient information, printed and digital.
- Oversee the governance and database management of all patient information.
- Support with campaigns relating to the Patient Experience element of the Nursing & Quality Division (e.g. Carer's Week, Learning Disability Week).
- Support with the Trust translation and interpreting contract.

- Uses computer for most of shift.
- The role is primarily office based but visits wards and others parts of the hospital will be necessary
- Some contact with patients will take place
- Travel to other Trust sites or to external venues may be necessary
- Management of a large and diverse workload with competing priorities and constantly bearing in mind issues of precedent which may have implications across the Trust
- The workload will be varied and unpredictable so initiative is required to prioritise, resolve problems undertake analysis or investigation including following up enquiries and obtaining information from other members of staff
- Working with stakeholders both within and outside of the Trust to ensure the most efficient and appropriate provision of services
- There will be a frequent need to work to tight timescales often at short notice
- Working with frequent interruptions, and short deadlines
- There will be direct exposure to emotional or distressing situations regarding patient stories
- Light or occasionally moderate physical work such as carrying equipment for workshops or to team meetings may be required
- The post-holder is a Display Screen Equipment user
- The post holder must be confident in using Windows based IT systems e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as other applications as described within the job description
