Job summary
An ST5-level or above post is available at North Bristol NHS Trust starting Sept 2023 for 12 months. The post would suit a doctor who has spent a few years on the gastroenterology training rotation and is preferably signed off in OGD and Colons as well. This post would be ideal for a gastroenterologist in the middle or toward the end of their specialist training who wishes to develop a specialist interest in endoscopy and endoscopy training. Duties would include 3 independent and 1 dedicated training endoscopy session per week (tailored to post holders requirements but could include small bowel enteroscopy, small bowel and colon capsule). The endoscopy fellow will have a significant involvement in organising and delivering endoscopy training both within the Endoscopy Dept and regionally. They will facilitate 4 one-day SPRINT courses at North Bristol using new endoscopy screen-based simulators to introduce technical skills to novice endoscopists from across the southwest.There are also added opportunities to be involved in human factors training (HiFIVE), haemostasis and polypectomy courses.Duties will also include back covering some aspects of existing Gastroenterology SpRs clinical activities to enable them to attend emersion training off site (2 months out of 12 month post).

Main duties of the job
The post holder will perform on average 2-3 endoscopy service lists per week. In addition, they will be provided with an endoscopy training list tailored to their training needs, which could include capsule endoscopy or advanced endoscopy such as small bowel enteroscopy if desired. This would be adapted depending on the skills and goals of the post-holder
About us
We are a modern endoscopy unit with 4 spacious procedure rooms within the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital site. The unit is fully equipped with Olympus endoscopes with NBI and scope guide in every room. The endoscopy units perform over 10,000 procedures per year including a wide range of endoscopic techniques including EUS, push and double balloon enteroscopy. Therapeutic procedures regularly carried out include chromoendoscopy, APC, EMR, clipping, banding, oesophageal and colonic stenting, dilatation, and glue injection. As a pioneer centre for capsule endoscopy, the Trust was the first to offer small bowel capsule enteroscopy as an NHS service. We have expanded to include colon capsules and this year will perform approximately 350 capsule examinations.
