Clinical Fellow: Doctor in Allergy and Immunology - Full time- 1 year with possible extension.
In the light of increased demand and a regionally expanding Allergy service, North Bristol NHS Trust wishes to invite applications for a fulltime Clinical Fellow in Allergy and Immunology.
Based in Southmead Hospital Bristol, the post holder will be provided an opportunity to deliver care in one of Europe's leading hospitals facilities,and afforded with comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities in relation to specialist procedures such as food challenges and anaesthetic challenges. North Bristol NHS Trust has also been chosen to provide services to Taunton, South Gloucestershire and Bath hospitals.
The successful applicant will play a key role in extending the NBT's Allergy and Immunology service and will work closely with Consultants and Specialist Nurses to meet increased demand for ambulatory care whilst also supporting inpatient day admission procedures.
They would be trained to develop expertise in diagnosing, treating and testing patients with allergies. In addition, they would need to be able to assess, manage and treat Immunology patients.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about allergies and the immune system, to trial it for a possible career or to take the skills learnt into other practice. Main duties of the job
Clinical
Responsibility for the care of patients in liaison with Consultant colleagues, Specialist Doctors and Registrar.
Responsibility and care of patients with Allergies and Immunodeficiecnys
Undertaking allergy clinics, challenges to food, medicines and other as required and directed and Immunology clinics, independently but with oversight by the clinical team as or if required
Undertaking duties with and for specialist Nursing staff as and when required. We would like the post holder to potentially undertake 2 clinics a month in the early evening, up to 8pm.
An occasional weekend clinic may be required (not > 1 per month and not if working a late clinic that week), subject to time off in lieu or appropriate pay. This is not an essential requirement.
Teaching & Supervision of Junior Medical Staff and Students
Teaching and accreditation duties as requested and agreed with your clinical manager are required, as is a contribution to undergraduate, postgraduate and continual medical education activity locally.
About us
The Department of Immunolgy and Allergy is the regional unit for the Avon, Somerset, Gloucester and Wiltshire Area. It provides a full complement of Allergy services to this region. This includes Allergy clinics, Allergy Diagnostics, Allergy Challenges and Desensitisation. The service is delivered by 4 Consultants, 2 specialst Dr's, 1 Spr and 7 Specialist Nurses. The successful applicant would be expected to join this busy successful team and provide support services for them.
We have a full range of allergy work, including diagnois, treatment, desensitisation and challenge. We also have specialist drug allergy diagnosis. This is a great opportunity for someone to gain experience in allergy, either for their future practice or as a taster for a future career. In addition, we deal with a large variety of immunodeficiencies within the department, the management of which is varied. Allergy to Immunology work is approximately 70:30.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Specialist Doctors (England).

For hours worked Monday to Friday, usually 09.00 to 17:00, some flexibility may be possible. There may be a request for one evening worked per week, with time off in lieu, up to 8pm.
There may be a requirement to work 1:6 Saturdays (we will not ask for evening and Saturday work; it will be either or). Time off will be given pro rata.
At present there is no planned-on call commitment, The job plan will be reduced accordingly to cover this eventuality, which is not likely.
Whilst on duty a doctor has clinical and professional responsibility for their patients or, for doctors in public health medicine, for a local population. It is also the duty of a doctor to:
Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition
Involve patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) in decision making about their treatment
Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) and comply in particular with the GMCs guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time (Doctors only)
Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Dental Council (GDC) (Dentists only).
Applicants must have completed at least 2 years postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least six of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant speciality or as a fixed term specialty training programme in a relevant speciality or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.Up to a year of this time can be in research.
