Job summary
We are seeking a passionate individual to join our team of dynamic consultants to provide care for women who require complex abortions.
The department provides a full range of obstetric and gynaecological services, and some sexual health services.
We provide regional quatertiary services for women with complex medical disorders, placenta accreta spectrum disorder, and women who require complex abortions.
Main duties of the job
This post would be to join a team of dynamic consultants to provide care for women who require complex abortions (1.25PAs)
The appointee will be expected to be fully involved in the development of complex abortion care, to take account of the Trust policies, including Risk Management Strategy and developments in Clinical Governance. The appointee may be asked to participate in managerial and administrative work and will be expected to be aware of the broader context within the NHS in which senior clinicians operate.

About us

The Trust moved the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building in May 2014 which is regarded as one of the best hospital facilities in Europe, on the Southmead Hospital site. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The women and children's services are delivered on the same site in a closely adjacent building.

Clinical Duties
- Provide clinical review and management of patients within abortion care
- Supervise and manage abortion care patients, including management of chronic medical health problems
- Communicate effectively and proactively with patients, and where appropriate, their families or representatives
- Facilitate discharge of abortion care patients by providing time clinical review and decisive decision making
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and board rounds to plan patient care and discharge
- Work as a member of the abortion care team, assessing and treating patients independently, seeking support as required from the Consultant team where appropriate
- Work according to local protocols and national guidelines, promoting safe standards of care and services
Managerial and Administrative Duties
- The post holder will be expected to contribute towards the development of the service and actively participate in leading specific streams of work.
- Work with consultant and other hospital colleagues to improve non-elective care pathways within the hospital
- Participate in evaluation and further development of the service
Teaching and Supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students & Allied Healthcare Professionals
- Contribute towards teaching and development of medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals using abortion care service
