Job summary

full/part time permanent clinical fellow in breastcare

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic doctor to join our busy department in North Bristol NHS Trust. Some experience of working in a breast clinic is desirable, however there will be opportunities to train the successful candidate further (both with external courses, and in house training).

The successful candidate will be based primarily in the breast clinic, with opportunity to spend some time in theatre, MDTs, admin, audit and research.

The role is 40 hours a week, with no on call commitment.

This is a 2 site service with occasional requirement to cover clinic in Weston General Hospital.

There will be close supervision and support from senior clinicians, however as the candidate becomes more confident, the aim will be to run one stop clinics independently.

We anticipate that over time we would encourage and support the clinician to develop competency in Ultrasonography of the breast, allowing further career development and opportunities within the department.

This is an exciting new post offered as part of a significant investment in the development of our workforce, subsequently we are looking to appoint a candidate who would like to be part of a long-term service development within Breastcare. There will be lots of opportunities for progression and development within the breast unit and we are looking for an enthusiastic clinician to come in to the team and make the most of this excellent new role.

Main duties of the job

full duties described within the job description

Courses/Training/Journal/Clubs/Lunchtime meetings

  • The post offers exciting opportunities for developing educational skills and quality improvement as well as furthering breast surgery knowledge and expertise.

  • Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice.

  • An Educational Supervisor will be allocated to ensure that the opportunities are optimised and tailored to the individual, who will have access to the same education opportunities as those in the regional training programme.

  • There are regular opportunities to meet with the clinical and management team to ensure that all issues regarding rotas, training and other problems are identified and resolved.

  • Monthly Audit meetings are held and the postholder will be expected to participate fully in these presenting and discussing Audit data.
