Senior Clinical Pharmacist Pharmacoeconomics - Band 8a

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for:-
- supporting the work of the Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Joint Formulary Group by ensuring NBT adheres to the BNSSG formulary, through critical appraisal of new drugs, audit and development of clinical pathways. There is a strong working relationship with our commissioners that you will build on and help support prescribing issues at the interface.
- supporting the governance and reporting of high costs drugs at NBT. You will play a key part in identifying Clinical Initiative Savings and implementing changes in practice to realise the savings.
- developing your clinical expertise by providing a clinical ward commitment to a dedicated area. The role includes a commitment to our 7 day working service involving evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
This is a diverse role that requires interaction with a variety of stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire ICB to promote the BNSSG Formulary and associated guidelines.

Summary of responsibilities include:-
- Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a clinically and cost effective BNSSG Joint Formulary within North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) on behalf of the BNSSG Joint Formulary Group.
- To ensure that the Formulary promotes safe, efficient, economical, evidence-based and rational prescribing of medicines so that treatment is optimised and risks to patients are minimised.
- To be a member of the BNSSG Joint Formulary Group.
- Provide pharmaceutical input to the production of relevant procedures, prescribing guidelines and integrated care pathways, particularly regarding medicines which are high risk or high cost.
- To ensure that NICE guidance is taken fully into account when developing the BNSSG Joint Formulary and to attend the local NICE College as required.
- Responsible for auditing NBT compliance with BNSSG Joint formulary and actioning change where appropriate to improve compliance.
- Responsible for the processes that manage the use of medicines outside of the formulary, liaising with Clinical Directors as appropriate.
- To influence and negotiate with Consultant medical staff (or equivalent), GPs, specialist nurses and Pharmacy colleagues in producing the Formulary and address prescribing issues across the primary / secondary care interface.
- Provide the finance department with required monthly expenditure reports for all high cost drugs.
- To liaise with the NHS England Area Team Specialised Commissioning Pharmacist and local Integrated Care Boards ICBs to ensure that the BNSSG Joint Formulary and prescribing within NBT reflects national policy and that funding is being appropriately claimed.
- Fully engaged with Cost Improvement Programme (CIP) process and be actively involved in ensuring identified initiatives produce actual savings.
- Contribute to implementation and maintenance of commissioner prior approval systems and commissioning policies.
- To develop and promote an awareness and training programme for medical, pharmacy and nursing staff which ensures compliance with the BNSSG Joint Formulary within North Bristol NHS Trust.
- Clinically screen prescriptions to ensure the safe, efficient, evidence-based and rational use of medicines in line with the Trust Formulary and departmental policies so that risks to patients are minimised.
