Consultant Interventional Radiologist

Applications are invited fora Consultant in Interventional Radiology. Applications from candidates wanting to work less than full time will also be considered.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of 5 full-time IR Consultants and participate in a 1:6 IR on-call rota covering Vascular and non-Vascular interventions. The department enjoys close working relationships with Vascular Surgery, Urology and a wide range of other surgical and medical specialities. Core skill set will include nephrostomy drainage, embolization for haemorrhage control and endovascular interventions for peripheral vascular disease. Experience with EVAR is desirable. Interests in gastro-intestinal interventional radiology would be welcome with a growing demand for these procedures. Similarly North Bristol NHS Trust performs around 100 PCNLs per annum.

Qualifications & Registrations

Essential

  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Maintain full registration with the GMC
  • Must have CCT in Clinical Radiology or Interventional Radiology and have been entered onto the Specialist Register at the time of the appointment. Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS)

Training & Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
  • Completion of a radiology training scheme with at least 2 years of interventional radiology training.
  • Demonstrable expertise and interest, with evidence of experience that would enable independent practise in vascular intervention including:; peripheral angiography and complex endovascular interventions and vascular imaging.
  • Proven ability to perform embolization for acute bleeding to support the trauma centre and for GI bleeding
  • General interventional skills including abscess drainage, nephrostomy and biopsy and management of haemodialysis access patients.
  • General cross-sectional imaging : Ability to report CT and MRI studies including CT angiography
  • Interest in working closely with the acute medical and surgical teams
  • Ability and experience to take part in reporting emergency radiology and plain film radiology.

  • Interventional fellowship experience
  • Experience of the following: - Biliary intervention - Oesophageal and colorectal stenting - Tumour ablation - Interest in Trauma Radiology - Interest in urological imaging and intervention - elective and emergency EVAR

Management Audit Training

  • Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
  • Experience in audit project and written up

Desirable

  • Completion of a general management course or programme.

Research Teaching Publications

Essential

  • Proven teaching ability.
