The Diabetes Team at Southmead Hospital is expanding it's well established and cohesive service. We are therefore excited to invite applicants to join us for a new part time Diabetes Specialist Dietitian post.
This role would be suitable for an established Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, or an experienced dietitian looking to develop a career in diabetes. The successful applicant will share our commitment to providing patient focused care and will be an essential member of our supportive and friendly multi-disciplinary team.
In the main the role will be to support patients with diabetes during pregnancy and those with recently diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes. However, there is scope to expand this depending upon special interest and service requirement. Support will be provided to develop the specialist knowledge and skills required.
The team are open to negotiating a flexible work pattern to meet the needs of the service and the successful post holder. We would like to invite applicants to apply for a substantive role, or we are willing to consider a secondment opportunity.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the multi disciplinary Diabetes Team at Southmead Hospital to provide nutritional support and guidance to patients with diabetes in pregnancy, with a large focus on individuals with Gestational Diabetes.
Other duties will involve providing dietary advice to patients with a new diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes to support progressing to a carbohydrate counting and insulin adjustment approach.
The role will also involve providing education on the use of diabetes technology and subsequent data interpretation to facilitate discussion concerning potential beneficial behaviour changes.
Dietetic input will be provided through one-to-one consultations and patient group education sessions, via face-to-face, telephone and virtual platforms.

The Diabetes Team at North Bristol Trust is a friendly, enthusiastic and well established service that currently comprises of Diabetes Consultants, Registrars, Specialist Nurses and a Specialist Dietitian, with extended links to Clinical Health Psychology, Podiatry and Antenatal services. The team continues to evolve and develop to best meet the needs of our patients.
The successful candidate will be supported by the senior Diabetes Specialist Dietitian to achieve the required competencies and to develop within the role.
