Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 nurse practitioner (Band 7 depending on experience) to join the GI surgical Nurse Practitioner team. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to support the MDT with the management of both inpatients and outpatients under the care of the colorectal surgical specialty. This is an exciting time for our team, with a vision to expand, ensuring an exceptional level of ward based continuity and support for both the medical and nursing teams is maintained. The post holder will need to be forward thinking and able to contribute experience and ideas to support this service development, with support and supervision from the senior nursing, consultant and ACP body. In addition, you will be expected to work autonomously in clinic, assessing a range of post admission complications including the management of complex wounds as well as the management of IR and surgically guided drains.
You will need to demonstrate the necessary skills to deliver outstanding care for both the acute and elective GI surgical patients. The post holder will be required to have a clear and concise understanding of a range of both colorectal and general GI presentations including the management of said presentations. Ideally, you will have undertaken or be working towards a qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice.
The service is currently Monday-Friday however this will be extended to cover a 7 day service in the future.'

Post will be for a trainee ACP in GI surgery. Depending on experience and qualifications this post will initially start as a Band 6 and increase to B7 on meeting the relevant criteria. If the post holder passes all exams and qualifications including NBT specific, then the role will become an Advanced Clinical Practitioner afc 8a. More details can be provided at interview or during informal visit.

The post holder will provide constant, high quality continuity to the colorectal team for the inpatient cohort. Working in-line with the junior doctors under the supervision of the Consultant and ACP.
This role is based around independent clinical practice to accelerate patient care pathways, through the efficient and effective deployment of assessment and diagnostic tools and personalised interventions (precision medicine) to improve measurable health and economic outcomes.
Leveraging a nursing background, the post holder will continue to develop the core elements of advanced practice, covering the four pillars mapped by Heath Education England (HEE) Advance practice framework.
The role incorporates the progressive development of history taking, clinical examination, clinical investigations and interpretation and subsequently the diagnosis and personalized management planning of the patient specific to the clinical specialty of surgery. The role requires the candidate to have a willingness to complete an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent as stipulated by the RCSENG ACP Curriculum.
The post holder will act as a senior nurse within the surgical wards and admission zones, provide leadership cover, being identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support.
