Main duties of the job

The Chief AHP is a key member of the Trusts Chief Nursing Officer Senior Leadership Team and professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer

Main duties of the role

  • Responsible for the effectiveness of professional leadership and development of AHP workforce.
  • Leading inspiring and developing the AHP workforce within the Trust to deliver high quality, patient centred care that meets the needs of the patient using highly specialist knowledge.
  • Pivotal in identifying AHP workforce transformative potential, supporting innovation and new ways of working to meet current and future needs of our patients.
  • Responsible for providing an advanced level of strategic thinking to the AHP services and wider Trust.
  • Work closely with the integrated care system to develop and establish seamless pathways (improvement without borders) to optimise people to be able to continue to live well with dementia and other complex conditions and ensure these people continue to live with maximum independence in our community.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and credible AHP leader with the ability to motivate and inspire staff to deliver the highest possible clinical and professional standards. You will be a clinical role model and will be passionate about improvement and patient-centred care. You will possess relevant professional qualifications plus additional specialist management knowledge, acquired through training and experience.

Job responsibilities

  • To collaborate with members of the Divisional Boards to ensure processes are in place to optimise the best use of the AHP resource, including monitoring productivity measures such as the model hospital/GIRFT.
  • To lead on a Trust wide approach to developing clinically effective AHP led advanced clinical practice models and support the Trust wide workforce development of Advanced Clinical Practice.
  • Ensure that professional standards are maintained, and continuous service improvement is delivered through leadership, effective succession planning.
  • Support divisional lead AHPs/service leads on capability and performance issues/referrals to relevant professional bodies
  • Develop a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the vision and strategic aims of the AHP services within the Trust, working with the Trust Board, staff and associated external bodies.
  • Undertake strategic service planning and ensure that the contribution, as appropriate, of AHP services is included in all new business.
  • To act as a key member of the Director of Nursing & Quality senior leadership team in being accountable, implementing and maintaining clinical governance and risk management, including evidence of compliance with the Care Quality Commission regulations.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of quality governance within the AHP teams are managed in conjunction with the broader governance systems and in dealing with formal complaints and the coroners office be able to interpret and understand clinical information and facts that are highly complex or require interpreting.
  • In consultation with the Director of Nursing & Quality and the Director of People and Transformation, develop a workforce plan to include competencies required and availability of experienced staff that meets the Trust requirements and is in line with professional developments within the Allied Health Professional workforce.

  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.

  • Demonstrate experience of working successfully across functional boundaries at a strategic level
