We are committed to widening access to careers in psychology and understand that unpaid work and posts with uncertain career pathways to qualifying as a psychologist contribute to disproportionate disadvantage for many people. This includes graduates from the Global Majority, graduates who are socio-economically disadvantaged, graduates who have caring responsibilities, and those with disabilities.

The posts will work to our standard Assistant Psychologists job description and are likely to include supporting audit and research activity, literature reviews, reviewing patient notes and/or direct clinical work delivered to individual patients or as part of a group.

The successful applicants will be given pen pictures of the available posts, including locations, specific clinical specialisms and the nature of the tasks, to inform their choice of post.

Main duties of the job

We are pleased to announce we are recruiting two Assistant Psychologists to work in different speciality areas across the trust. The funding for these posts has been acquired through the NHS England Aspiring Psychologist scheme, which aims to address these disadvantages by offering paid opportunities for aspiring psychologists who otherwise would be disadvantaged as they are less able to volunteer their time. Each is post is four months full-time, or longer if the successful candidates prefer to work part-time. There are posts available across our organisation, in a range of services; the successful candidates will choose their preferred area to work in.

We would therefore like to invite applications from psychology graduates who have (1) not worked as an Assistant Psychologist previously (paid or unpaid) and (2) are from one (or more) of the following groups: those from a Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic background; those with a disability; those from LGBT+ communities; or those whose opportunities to work on a voluntary basis have been significantly reduced due to caring responsibilities or financial disadvantage.
