Job summary

The Humber Neuro and Speech and Language Therapy Teams work closely in the diagnosis and support of Children with Autism. We are excited to offer a maternity cover split post both teams (Children's Speech and Language Therapy and Neurodiversity Service) for experienced Speech and Language Therapists who are interested in being involved in the diagnosis of Autism/ADHD whilst retaining special interests within the speech and language therapy service e.g. sensory processing, dysphagia, youth justice, early years, specialist provisions.

The successful candidates would be integral to the diagnostic process in the Neurodevelopmental team. In both services there would be opportunities for contributing to pathway and service development, supported by a robust supervision structure and CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • To practice as an advanced Speech and Language Therapist utilising highly specialist skills in assessing and supporting social interaction, social communication, speech, language, interests and flexible thinking.
  • To link, liaise and integrate with the local Speech and Language Therapy Service and pathways within designated clinical areas
  • To practice autonomously without direct supervision.
  • To utilise, support and enable others to reach their competencies within the team such as Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, and other Speech and Language Therapists.
  • To recognise the need for, initiate and interpret professionally relevant diagnostic .assessments
  • To recognise the need for and initiate where appropriate advice of relevant specialisms.
  • To demonstrate advanced clinical skills in ASD and/or ADHD assessments and provide appropriate leadership, training and supervision of staff undertaking assessments as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Be responsible for ensuring clinical outcome data is appropriately collated and routinely recorded to the Trust and professional clinical regulatory body standards.
  • To continuously evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the service by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures and participate in the development of the service to achieve a gold standard neurodiversity service.
