Specialist Community Occupational Therapist

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 25 March 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated, dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Multidisciplinary community team based at Whitby Hospital.

This role offers the opportunity to provide planned Occupational Therapy to a varied caseload of patients, as well as the opportunity to develop skills to be able to support the Urgent Community Response service in Whitby.

You would be joining an integrated community team who work across traditional professional boundaries for the benefit of their patients, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and promoting independence.

This post offers the chance to consolidate knowledge and develop OT specific and generic skills that are transferable across teams, and service user groups. We are looking for someone who will take the opportunities afforded by this, and who can foster effective working relationships with professionals and with service users.

The post-holder will be expected to assess and deliver evidence-based OT interventions, to facilitate wellbeing, and optimise independent functioning in self-care, productivity and leisure activities, from an occupational perspective.

Interventions take place in home environments and community settings with flexibility of working required to meet service user needs.

Main duties of the job

  • To help people who have difficulties carrying out day-to-day activities because of a disability, illness, trauma, ageing, and a range of long-term conditions.
  • To support the Urgent Community Response service in Whitby, aiding prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitating early discharges from hospital.
  • To delegate intervention to the appropriate staff members to enable evidence-based patient care and promote patient flow.
  • Provide occupational therapy advice to other disciplines and provide training and competency support to the wider team.
  • Participate in departmental research.
