Job summary

We are seeking a Registered Forensic or Clinical Psychologist to join our team of psychologists who come from a variety of professional backgrounds. The successful applicant will primarily be based in our secure in-patient services. You will be able to work with your psychological models of preference as indicated by individual need, and will be supported to develop your skills and expertise in applying these with a forensic population.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will undertake individualised assessments, formulations and interventions with patients, and will work alongside the senior psychologist who will identify and lead clinical need for the wards. You will also work into our SAARC service, assessing forensic risk of clients in the community in a child protection context; you will be supported to develop in this area before undertaking assessments. There may also be the opportunity to work into local prisons.

The post-holder will support the ward teams through consultancy, facilitation of reflective practice, and elements of staff training. There is potential for working across our in-patient and community services both with fellow psychologists and a range of other professionals. In addition to working directly with patients, there are opportunities for, teaching and training, supervision, and to pursue research interests and contribute to service-based evaluation and audit.

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of a wide range of psychometric and other objective assessment tools as applied in mental health work
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion

Desirable

  • Additional short specialist courses with demonstrable impact on practice.

Experience
