Job summary

We are recruiting for a Learning Disability Nursing Workforce Champion to join our team in Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership Integrated Care System. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced learning disability nurse to share their skills and a passion to make a lasting difference across voluntary, health, and social care sectors. We're looking for someone with experience in running projects with the knowledge and skills to challenge the norm in a creative approachable way.

There's a national drive to increase the number of learning disability nurses within health and social care and we will be looking to the successful candidate to shape and build what this looks like. Working closely with Learning Disability Nurse Champions across the Region, and a wide range of stakeholders, you will oversee the implementation of projects to enhance the learning disability nursing profession both in terms of numbers, awareness, credibility and the many varied opportunities.

We are looking for someone who can take a creative approach to considering all potential areas of recruitment and retention of learning disability nurses within the Humber and North Yorkshire area. You will utilise your specialist knowledge to work in collaboration, ensuring parity across partner organisations; liaising with universities and ensuring learning disability posts are mapped appropriately across the area; reviewing ongoing research innovations and scoping for further training.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide the overall management for the LD Nursing Workforce project, developing and delivering a comprehensive project plan.
  • Identify and overcome any challenges to project implementation through developed working relationship and negotiation skills.
  • Be a strong advocate for learning disability nursing, inspiring new interest and support for this profession and its importance, linked in with education and health and social care
  • In collaboration with those with lived experience, design and deliver a range of outreach work/projects across the Humber and North Yorkshire footprint, to increase awareness of the LD nursing profession with a focus on those in further education.
  • Understand the current provision of LD nursing training places, rate of take up and the opportunity to expand this and develop new pathways to expand the workforce and retain students in training.
  • Provide a comprehensive report on the levels of retention of LD nurses within Humber and North Yorkshire, the reasons for leaving the profession and a plan for improving retention.
  • Develop a range of pathways into LD nursing and career progression opportunities.
  • Work at an ICB level to connect with other professionals working at place and trust level on promotion and pastoral
  • Respond to the needs of the ICB learning disability and autism programme as part of the workforce team
