The Specialist Treatment and Recovery Service (STaRS) are looking to recruit a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join an established Multi-Disciplinary Team. STaRS is a mental health rehabilitation service and has undergone an exciting review. The team offers intensive, high quality, person-centered interventions for service users in both inpatient settings and the community. This pioneering service is based in Hull and serves Hull and East Yorkshire.
The Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) model underpins the service ethos. PIE has at its core, safe and secure relationships and environments for staff and service users, delivered through training, supervision, and regular evaluation using the ReQol, Recovery Star and MOHOST tools. Compassion Focused Therapy is the psychological framework adopted by STaRS which is cited as being "the sensitivity to suffering in self and others, combined with the commitment to try and alleviate and prevent it".

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work alongside the STaRS team, in both the inpatient facility (a five bedded, mixed ward) and in the community to support service users in their recovery. The successful applicant will be required to have excellent engagement skills and will be proactive in working with people who may have complex needs and will be expected to plan and organise care for community patients. The candidate will work collaboratively with our service users and their families/carers, and with a range of colleagues from varying professions and partner agencies to support the service users through their ongoing recovery journey from their mental health difficulties. The post holder will be expected to make complex decisions, be aware of risk management and set a positive example to the wider team.
The successful candidate will form part of the occupational therapy team (comprising a band 7 Advanced Occupational Therapist, two band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapists a rotational band 5 Occupational Therapist, two Associate Practitioners of Occupational Therapy and 4 Occupational Therapy Assistants) to develop and establish occupational therapy provision within the service. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with interests and skills in complex recovery with both an inpatient and community focus.

There will be a requirement for the Specialist OT to broaden their mental health skills- set, co-ordinating activities, tasks and staff on the Unit, and to work flexibly in line with rosters and shift patterns.
In addition to delivering core occupational therapy assessments and interventions, there will also be opportunities to play a significant role in the Leadership Team to plan, mould and lead the continuing development of the service.
The candidate is expected to have a high level of clinical knowledge, be adept at using MOHO and its assessments, value recovery-focussed interventions that facilitate and enable people with mental health problems to fulfil their optimum level of personal, social and occupational functioning. The successful candidate will be able to share knowledge around effective evidence-based strategies, and the assessing and creating of enabling environments.
The post holder will be managed by the Team Manager, and professionally supervised by the Advanced Occupational Therapist, with access to the wider OT professional network, and a monthly professional development group to skills-share and meet CPD requirements for HCPC registration.

The successful applicant needs to have the ability to commute within the Trusts geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport is essential.
