Job summary

PSYPHER (Early Intervention in Psychosis Service) offers up to 3 years of care for people in Hull & East Riding after a First Episode of Psychosis, or people assessed to be a 'At risk' of Psychosis.

You will work as part of a welcoming therapy team to offer CBT creatively, flexibly, and with a focus on working as part of the wider EIP team. The Therapy team consists of at present 2 CBT therapists, a Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist. We also regularly provide placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists, and there may be opportunities to be involved in supervising and training these professionals.

A First Episode of Psychosis can have a marked impact on a person's life, as well as their family and support networks. The Early intervention team aims to work holistically with individuals to help them get back on with life. In the context of a good therapeutic relationship the team aim to work according to the best available evidence, to offer a range of interventions including Family work, CBT, education and employment support, Medication, Physical health interventions and rebuilding social connections.

The post is part time at 30hrs per week

Main duties of the job

You will focus on offering CBT with service users, drawing on evidence-based models and working with the wider team. You will be a vital part of the leadership in the team developing a positive culture and exploring how specific knowledge of CBT can help the team grow. Part of the role involves offering ongoing training, supervision, and support to the wider team.

Multidisciplinary working is encouraged as it is believed to be vital to provide a full-support package to people and their families. Good communication skills will be important, especially when sharing formulations with both staff and those accessing the service.

Ongoing personal and professional development is valued as we strongly believe in investing in our staff team. As part of this, ongoing training to maintain accreditation and develop skills and knowledge in line with the needs of the service will be supported.

The team have also moved towards a blended care approach with a focus on building good therapeutic relationships and offering to meet with people in a way that works for them. This includes Face to face appointments, virtual appointments and telephone. The successful candidate would need to have the ability to use IT equipment this would include using virtual appointments e.g. MS Teams & Upstream.

The ability to commute within the Trust's geographical area & access to an appropriate means of transport is essential.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • A Post Graduate Diploma CBT Psychosis qualification which meets the criteria for British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapists BABCP accreditation with evidence of experience delivering CBT in a mental health service.
  • Specialist knowledge around all interventions to work with common mental health problems
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion, Child Protection
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • Demonstrate specialist understanding of people experiencing first episode psychosis and at risk mental state Demonstrate specialist knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable

  • Accredited with BABCP
  • Clinical supervision qualification
  • Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts within own area of work/responsibility
