Job summary
The successful appointee will be expected to have a clinical and research role within the EDS service. They will see patients under supervision of the EDS consultants to develop their learning and training in EDS and related inherited connective tissue conditions. They will also be involved in research regarding in rare, monogenic EDS under the supervision of the EDS lead.
Main duties of the job
This post is a full-time, fixed term post delivering clinics & research involving regarding rare, monogenic EDS and requires a strong interest/experience of the candidate in inherited connective tissue conditions. It is suitable for registrar level clinicians in Rheumatology, Clinical Genetics, Cardiology, Dermatology or other relevant specialities including vascular surgery. The main base for the post will be the EDS service at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
oThe successful applicant will, after a period of observing clinics, be responsible for preparing the information for the following week's clinics and will begin seeing patients in the EDS service independently with supervision. On average, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out 2 clinics per week.
oDepending on previous experience, a period of observation of consultations will introduce the successful applicant to the techniques of clinical assessment including examination, genetic counselling, pedigree drawing and risk estimation. The applicant will also discuss cases with genetic counsellors to develop counselling skills.
oThe successful applicant will attend clinical meetings and MDTs and contribute to the presentation and discussion of complex cases.
oThe successful applicant will contribute to recruiting to the neEDS study, scientific publications in the EDS service and preparation of grant applications.
