Job summary
We currently have vacancies for Band 5 Peri-operative Staff Nurses to join our Recovery-NPH/CMH.
The post holder will be part of the multi-disciplinary team in delivering post-surgery/procedure and post anaesthesia care to patients being cared for in the Recovery area.
The Recovery Practitioner will be practicing a high standard of care, participating in all activities in the department and work flexibly alongside the team members to meet and deliver service needs of Recovery area.
To contribute to the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care/care pathways including discharge planning of each patient.
To practice according to NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) taking the responsibility of providing a high standard and holistic individualised care to each patient or a defined group of patients.
To work and practice within professional limitations and boundaries and escalating issues or difficulties to nurse in charge and/or Recovery Lead Practitioner if unable to resolve within own capability/capacity.
Main duties of the job
The post holder:
Is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of post-operative and post anaesthesia care needs of patients under your care.
Work collaboratively and as part of the team to deliver and meet the care needs of patients coming through the Recovery area.
To participate in nursing care activities of the team within the area of work responsibility.
To assist in the organisation and work planning of the Recovery Lead Practitioner as required.
To maintain and contribute to high quality standard of care delivery and ensuring professional practice is evidence-based.
To support the integration and implementation of clinical governance in all aspects of patient care and service delivery.
To contribute to the continuing professional development of students/learners, junior members of staff and colleagues.

Clinical Responsibilities
To provide individualised, high quality and clinically safe care to post surgery/post anaesthesia patients.
Ensures work environment is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness especially before and after receiving patient into Recovery area.
Provision of individualised care needs in conjunction with the anaesthetic and surgical teams supported and guided by Senior Recovery Practitioner/Recovery Lead Practitioner as necessary.
Accepts responsibility with awareness of own professional competence and limitations and acknowledge own boundaries by asking for assistance as required.
Recognise and appropriately respond to urgent and emergency situations.
To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team demonstrating awareness ofrole and responsibilities.
To update the patient care records ensuring own responsibility and accountability in maintaining accurate nursing documentation using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and in any other form.
Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive evidence-based change in line with the local and national guidelines such as Association of Perioperative Practice (AfPP), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), National Institute of Care Essence (NICE), British Association of Recovery Nurses Association (BARNA) etc.
Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care, clinical practice, and service delivery.
Identify, discuss, and report any relevant nursing/patient care needs with the team and to inform and involve patient with their care plans.
To carry out all relevant nursing procedures and practices in line with the Trusts guidelines and policies including adherence to local guidelines, policies, and protocols.
