Job summary
The key responsibilities of the post-holder will include:
o Effectively manage a large acute medical, ambulatory Care and Acute Medical Unit medical rota, mainly Ealing hospital.
o Ensure adequate patient flow is maintained on a day-to-day basis for operational effectiveness.
o Take a lead role in filling all vacant shifts, ensuring there is a weekly contingency plan in place.
o Design, implement and manage the Medical on-call rotas at all grades of staff.
o Liaise with Clinical Leads and Matron to ensure patient safety is optimal.
o Working alongside the Service Manager to ensure that necessary medical are covered appropriately, building contingency plans to mitigate risk.
o Responsible for budgetary control and ensure good department expenditure is being maintained.
o Co-ordinator the rotas for medical staff including locum bookings and re-allocation of staff to cover shortfalls.
o Ensure staff maintain up to date appraisals and are compliant with local training standards.
o Investigate and respond to complaints (both verbal and written), including Datix incidents within a specified timeframe.
o Ensure patient activity is accurately recorded and coded on the IT systems by administration staff.
o Present on department activity and performance to senior management teams.
Main duties of the job
To participate in induction programmes for medical staff. Ensuring a well-trained and highly motivated workforce.
Rota Co-ordinator for medical staff including locum bookings and reallocation of staff to cover shortfalls.
To support the Service Manager, implement any new processes or procedures. Support the maintenance of consistently high levels of quality, safety, and performance across the organisation to deliver clinical excellence and high patient satisfaction through managing the rota ensuring adequate levels of staff.
Act as a focal point within the department in managing internal communications. Ensure smooth running of the office through maintaining office systems including the development and maintenance of paper and electronic filing systems to ensure safe transfer and storage of information.
To provide back-up service for medico-legal service as required covering absences or planned leave periods.
To respond to telephone enquiries often of a confidential nature, from all staff groups, patient's relatives and carers providing information. Providing information, prioritising queries as appropriate in a prompt and pro-active manner.
