Job summary

The Acute Medicine team atEaling Hospital are seeking a talented, dynamic individual to appoint to the new key role of Service Delivery Manager.

The role will enable the post-holder to develop management skills in capacity planning, problem solving, relationship management and negotiation skills. It will also provide the post holder the unique opportunity of managing the Acute Medicine Department that incorporates the medical take, Medical Assessment Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).

In addition to performance against the Acute Medicine targets, the post holder will handle complaints, service improvement and rota co-ordination as well as supporting the clinical management team.

This post would be well suited to someone who already has some service management experience who was looking to broaden their experience and take on new challenges, but would also suit individuals who are driven, focused and able to work to deadlines. The successful applicant will have access to development courses where appropriate and will be encouraged to attend regional acute medicine conferences to develop knowledge and skills and represent the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the post-holder will include:-

  • Working with the respective General Manager, Clinical Leads, Clinical Directors to manage the day-to day running of Acute Medicine Trust-wide including the Acute Assessment Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and working with the on-call Physician and the AAU team to ensure all targets are met
  • Work with the General Manager and the rota coordinator to ensure junior doctor rosters are compliant and provide the required support for the service
  • Maintain good working relations with the consultants and junior doctors and provide direct support to the teams in rostering
  • Responsibility for the Division's complaints process as it applies to acute medicine to ensure that response times for complaints are improved in accordance with national standards
  • Becoming familiar with NSFs, NICE guidance, best practice and future developments in order to ensure that the requirements of national policy are met
  • To liaise with relevant personnel in all commissioning groups in order to support theimplementation of demand management initiatives and other service developments in line with the Trust's commissioning strategy
  • To monitor key performance indicators (length of stay, same day discharge, ED targets etc) and to share these with clinicians to maximise service efficiency
  • Management of the clinical budgets for these areas; this will also include the preparation of business cases and recruitment submissions as required.
