JOB SUMMARY

  • To work as a member of the A&E team supporting aspects of clinical care to ensure smooth flow of patients through the department.

  • To provide equal support to the nursing and medical team in ensuring that patients clinical needs are dealt with in a timely fashion.

  • To work as an emergency department technician assisting the delivery of emergency care within a specialist area.

  • To assist and support the medical and nursing staff working in the emergency department performing tasks and

  • To perform blood test analysis in the ED PoCT laboratory according to standard operating procedures (SOP) and to carry out specialised testing at the request of the nursing and medical team

  • To contribute to the safe transfer of patients who are critically ill or injured with the London North West university hospitals trust

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform sample analysis on ED lab analysers in accordance with sop's and specialist testing
  • Preparation of procedural trolleys and assist nursing medical staff in performing sterile clinical procedures
  • To provide support to nursing and medical team by assisting with the preparation and delivery of care for level 2/3 patients
  • To make sure maintenance of equipment is maintained to keep the department safe and patient's safe
  • To carry out audits and training in relation to equipment and safe use

MAIN DUTIES

  • Develop an understanding of the scientific basis of laboratory work
  • Perform sample analysis on ED lab analysers in accordance with SOP's and health and safety regulations
  • Perform daily calibrations and quality control tests on all analysers according to SOP's
  • Inform clinicians of abnormal results
  • Ensure fridge and freezer temperatures are recorded on a daily basis
  • Understand the necessity for accurate communication of complex information observes departmental quality control procedures.
  • Participate in audits to highlight deficiencies in pre examination, and post examination process
  • Comply with local and national policies for the safe, secure, confidential processing and storage of patient and other laboratory information.
