JOB SUMMARY
- To work as a member of the A&E team supporting aspects of clinical care to ensure smooth flow of patients through the department.
- To provide equal support to the nursing and medical team in ensuring that patients clinical needs are dealt with in a timely fashion.
- To work as an emergency department technician assisting the delivery of emergency care within a specialist area.
- To assist and support the medical and nursing staff working in the emergency department performing tasks and
- To perform blood test analysis in the ED PoCT laboratory according to standard operating procedures (SOP) and to carry out specialised testing at the request of the nursing and medical team
- To contribute to the safe transfer of patients who are critically ill or injured with the London North West university hospitals trust
Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform sample analysis on ED lab analysers in accordance with sop's and specialist testing
- Preparation of procedural trolleys and assist nursing medical staff in performing sterile clinical procedures
- To provide support to nursing and medical team by assisting with the preparation and delivery of care for level 2/3 patients
- To make sure maintenance of equipment is maintained to keep the department safe and patient's safe
- To carry out audits and training in relation to equipment and safe use
MAIN DUTIES
- Develop an understanding of the scientific basis of laboratory work
- Perform sample analysis on ED lab analysers in accordance with SOP's and health and safety regulations
- Perform daily calibrations and quality control tests on all analysers according to SOP's
- Inform clinicians of abnormal results
- Ensure fridge and freezer temperatures are recorded on a daily basis
- Understand the necessity for accurate communication of complex information observes departmental quality control procedures.
- Participate in audits to highlight deficiencies in pre examination, and post examination process
- Comply with local and national policies for the safe, secure, confidential processing and storage of patient and other laboratory information.
