Job summary
The paediatric department has a link to the medical school through a Professor in paediatric public health and a Paediatric Honorary Senior Lecturer from Imperial College School of Medicine on site in charge of the large undergraduate teaching programme. There are a number of research projects in progress.

The Paediatric Department comprises general paediatrics, neonatology (Level II) and numerous sub-speciality services.
Hospital Catchment: approx 500,000. District population: 220,000. (child:47,000). Births/annum: 4,500.
Main duties of the job
This post involves care of children on Jacks Place (Long stay inpatient ward), Paediatric Day-care unit, Rainbow Ward or the Paediatric ambulatory unit (PAU)(Short stay inpatient ward <24hrs) and the care of children in the Paediatric Emergency department. The trust grade SHOs in Paediatrics are part of the ST1-3/ FY2 rota and will see all children as per the agreed protocol in the Emergency Department. They will attend ward rounds, daily hand-over, weekly Grand Round and other departmental teaching opportunities. They will also be given the opportunity to see children in outpatient clinics alongside consultants or registrars.
