Job summary

Meadow House is an NHS Hospice providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care services to the residents of Ealing and Hounslow. It includes a 15-bed inpatient unit and an active day hospice. Patients are admitted to Meadow House in order to manage their symptoms, including pain control, and to undergo planned respite care and end of life care.

The Macmillan Psycho-oncology Service (MPoS), provides Meadow House with psychological expertise. MPoS operates within a model of stepped care and is therefore integrated into the wider staff team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Main duties of the job

The role holder will:

  • Provide a specialist psychology service to palliative care patients and families including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
  • Contribute to enabling other staff, service users, families and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe and informed environment.
  • Provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.
  • Undertake service evaluation, audit and research.
  • As required, contribute to other clinical activities of MPoS at Ealing Hospital.
  • Work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies, standards and procedures of the service, Psychological Services Network and Trust, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

Beyond cancer services, MPoS is part of the wider Psychological Services Network (PSN) that brings together psychological specialists across the trust. The role includes participation in the teaching and service development activities of PSN.
