Job summary

This post is ideal for candidates who have a minimum of 4 years broad experience in Anaesthesia (including in critical care) and have a postgraduate qualification equivalent to the FRCA (RoyalCollege on Anaesthetists, UK).

Experience in managing a range of anaesthetic scenarios is essential (including ASA 1-3 patients having elective and emergency general surgery, orthopaedics/trauma, gynaecology, OMFS) and experience and competence of responding to emergency calls to the emergency department (eg cardiac and trauma calls), hospital wards and peri-operative areas and supporting the critical care team if needed.

Candidates will need to have worked in the NHS for at least 6 months to be eligible to apply.This post provides excellent training and development opportunities for a career anaesthetist who wishes to gain further experience in a busy northwest London Trust. It could also provide a route to either applying for a Specialist Training number or following an alternative path, such as theCESR route. The department has an excellent reputation for training, supporting trainees taking FRCA exams and applying for training numbers. The anaesthetic department has also recently set up a CESR programme.

Main duties of the job

Undertake pre assessment, intraoperative and post-operative anaesthetic care of patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery.- Follow up the patient in the post-operative period including pain management.- Know the basic and advanced skills of managing anaesthetic emergencies in patientsof all age groups.- Communicate with supervising Consultant Anaesthetist for advice and support as required and not act beyond the level of own competence (out of hours there is an oncall Consultant Anaesthetist)- Attend cardiac arrests/trauma calls and support critically ill patients on the ward and in the Emergency Department when required out of hours to support the primary responder.- Provide intra- and inter-hospital transfers of critically unwell patients- Supervise, train and support more junior anaesthetic colleagues (including the Anaesthetic SHO, 222-bleep holder)- Provide out-of-hours acute pain management as required (with the Anaesthetic SHO)- Familiarise him/ herself with their role in the Trust's Major Incident policy and departmental policies
