The Regional Hyper-Acute Rehabilitation Unit is a tertiary service which caters for adults with severe complex neurological disability. It is a highly specialised Level 1 service forming the hub of the north-west London rehabilitation network. It combines inpatient services with outreach to support community rehabilitation teams and other professionals across the network. It is recognised as one of the UK's leading rehabilitation centres and is a model for good rehabilitation practice across the world.

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • assist in the provision of a high quality, intensive therapy service under the supervision of specialist speech and language therapists.
  • take an active role in leading therapy groups and gain valuable experience in working with people with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the department and service including administrative tasks, contributing to service improvement projects and audit.
  • take a lead on managing technology and software to support patients with complex communication needs.
  • work as part of an interdisciplinary team and will be offered opportunities for career development, continuing professional development and upskilling.

You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team and be required to prepare and administer therapeutic programs for communication and swallowing difficulties under the direction of qualified SLTs.

You will design and develop appropriate therapy resources and communication aids under guidance of the SLT, and assist in the provision of a high quality, intensive therapy service to patients within the unit. You will support provision of therapy groups for people with communication difficulties. You will undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the department and service including administrative tasks, contributing to service improvement projects and audit.

Essential

  • oNVQ level-3 qualification in health and social care or equivalent, or 3 or more A levels.

Desirable

  • oBSc, BA honours degree or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Basic understanding of Speech and Language Therapy as a profession.
  • Experience of working with people with a disability and/or experience of working with adults in health, social or educational setting either in paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Ability to work as part of a team including the ability to work under supervision and be aware of limitations seeking help as appropriate
  • Experience in communicating professionally
  • Experience of time management and organising workload.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within a health setting
  • Experience in instructing and guiding patients in individual and group settings
